Artist Statement

”Painter life for 16 years”

In 2000 I made a big decision. I started to work hard in order to bring my art to a new level. Little by little, I was able to improve my work and to see some progress. On the other hand, I was ready to give up after each work. But something kept me going. During the years between 2000 and 2004 I painted only with watercolors, mostly detailed bird figures with a Finnish landscape on the background.

In 2004 I changed my technique and started to paint with oil colors. I had no previous experience from this technique, so it took me many months and hours of practice with numerous works that I had to paint over and over again. Eventually, I got the new technique under control and during 2005 and 2006 the colors started to shine and got brighter. During these years I studied Pointillism, as well, and it made a huge impact on me. The depth of oil colors and the possibility to mix the color in various ways, thus creating new color worlds, is the best and greatest of all.

I seldom make any precise plans on what to paint. My works simply come up by themselves. In my art I want to express power and energy. I am happy if I am able to transfer my experiences from each moment and idea on the canvas.

I frame my paintings myself, using wood, metal and mosaic. For the frames I have used often recycled material, too, that I have found from flea markets or that my friends have given me.

I love to paint nature, animals and people. Especially the birds and big mammals of Northern nature are my favorite objects. I admire their ability to survive in the hard circumstances of North. Nature has always been very important to me, it is my church. I paint outdoors in the nearby woods all around the year, too.
