About

Daphna Wysokier Dishi was born in 1977, in a small agricultural community located in the Negev desert of Israel. Having grown up in a rural desert landscape, Daphna was always drawn to the quietness and stillness of the land and was captivated by the earthy colors and rough textures which she later explored in her paintings. After completing her military service in the Israel Defense Force, she left Israel and went to live in Melbourne Australia for the next 13 years. During that time, Daphna’s passion for art deepened through her studies in painting with the artist Dena Lester, as well as studying photography with the documentary photographer Emmanuel Tolentino Santo. In 2002, she completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at Monash University, in Melbourne. Influenced by her own life, she also became interested in the healing power of art and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Art Therapy at La-Trobe University in 2006. Daphna has exhibited in various galleries around Melbourne including a solo exhibition at the Jewish Museum of Australia, where she exhibited paintings depicting her longing for the Israeli Negev desert. After returning to Israel, through her paintings Daphna expressed her primary emotions, her psyche, and used her art to bridge a connection between her deepest emotions and the universal, timeless, language of emotions. She has created images and textures that are expressive and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Her paintings touch on both internal and external worlds and are generally imbued with a desert feel. In her art, Daphna uses a variety of techniques which include pallet knife, sponge, rollers, water drips, and layered textures in an attempt to re-create layers of emotional response. Daphna also works as an Art Therapist helping children with emotional difficulties and special needs children. Daphna exhibits her paintings at various galleries in Israel and has participated in many group, and solo exhibitions.
