Isabel O'Brien

Artist Statement

Isabel is an Australian artist who works with photography and mixed media. Looking to the natural landscape for inspiration, her recent works often incorporate drawing and painting. Whilst predominantly working with photography, her work is deeply informed by her studies - Bachelor of Fine Art (Sculpture) and Masters in Art in Public Space. This background of working with space and physical objects greatly influences the work with photography, not only within the image but also how the final work transpires as a tangible object. O’Brien has always been interested in exploring the way people read images and disrupting this through engaging/incorporating the viewer into the work. Such as making the surface of a work reflective so the viewers own image looks back at themselves within the image.
